Recently, the global wine closure market has shown a diversified and innovative landscape, with the application of environmentally friendly materials and the integration of intelligent technologies becoming key drivers of industry transformation, pushing traditional bottle closures towards multi-functional solutions.
Data shows that in 2023, natural cork stoppers still held a high-end market share of 68.5%, but synthetic closures (including screw caps and polymer stoppers) showed significant growth, reaching a market share of 31.5%. Environmental upgrades have become a core competitive area: the Italian winery Donnafugata uses "Ocean Nomacorc" stoppers made from recycled ocean plastic, and France's Guala Closures has launched a bio-based screw cap containing 30% recycled ocean plastic, reducing carbon emissions by 42% compared to traditional products. Technological improvements are also progressing: Nomacorc's plant-based stoppers precisely control oxygen transmission rates, while Amorim uses supercritical CO₂ extraction technology to control the TCA detection rate in natural cork stoppers to below 0.3%.
Intelligent applications are gradually being implemented. Companies such as Pernod Ricard have launched screw caps with built-in NFC chips, allowing consumers to scan codes to access complete product information, resulting in a 27% increase in repeat purchases. Industry insiders say that with the increasing demand for ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices, wine closures that balance flavor preservation, environmental attributes, and consumer experience will become crucial for wineries to differentiate themselves in the market.
